A stroke may induce depression

In most cases,stroke will bring mind a lot of problems, including paralysis and diffilty in speech. But if someone has recently had a stroke, you’re probably aware that emotional effects go well beyond the physical and far more difficult to overcome.
Though depression can attack anyone, those who’ve undergone a disastrous illness may be more susceptible than other people.The chances of developing a mood disorder becomes greater when you throw a brain injury into the mix. As many as half of stroke survivors will become depressed, according to relative statistics.
Clinical treatment demonstrate that stroke survivors who were treated for depression manifested improved recovery in activities compared with those whose depression were untreated.
The depressed patients also tend to be less compliant with rehabilitation and more resistant to making lifestyle changes to prevent a second stroke.
Luckily, depression can be treated. With appropriate care, a patient will lead a happier life. It’s not always easy to recognize depression. You may also think he has good reason to feel depressed. After all, he’s just had a stroke and can’t do the things he used to be able to do. But it is different between the normal grieving process and depression. The warning signs of depression include:
1. Frequent crying episodes
2.Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness
3.Poor appetite or increased appetite
4.Sleeping too much or not enough
5.Increased agitation and restlessness
6.Loss of interest in life
7.Expressing thoughts of dying or suicide
